LiterASIAN 2022 - "Finding Our Voices, Telling Our Stories"

Vancouver, BC - LiterASIAN Festival celebrates its special tenth-anniversary festival, “Finding Our Voices, Telling Our Stories” featuring authors and cultural activists from across North America. These past two years have been challenging, fraught with anti-Asian sentiments and even violence. This year’s festival, “Finding Our Voices, Telling Our Stories” features a speaker line-up that includes panel discussions, writing workshops, literary book talks, manuscript development sessions, and ends with a film screening that showcases the artistic creations of the featured speakers. In finding our voices again, the festival counters the anti-Asian racism that has sought to silence the contributions and dignity of Asian Canadians. Featuring Leslie Lum, Grace Chin, Raugi Yu, Cheuk Kwan, Jamie Liew, and Wayne Ng, this year's line-up of writers from creative backgrounds in publishing, film, and theatre industries, sharing their insights and experiences as pioneers in their own right who have inspired others as their BIPOC artists and sharing experiences navigating predominantly white institutions? And what did they struggle with or experience? And how does that inform their practice beyond the institution?

“The Asian Canadian Writers’ Workshop has introduced a generation of writers to the literary world, and this festival sets a stage for both established and new literary talent from a range of genres to share their ideas and stories, as a celebration of their craft,” says Cindy Chan Piper, LiterASIAN’s artistic director. “This festival is inspired by the idea that Asian Canadian is intercultural, intergenerational, and international.” This is the year LiterASIAN will return to its Asian Canadian roots in Vancouver’s historic Chinatown, hosted at the spectacular Chinatown Storytelling Centre, the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden, and Centre A: Vancouver International Centre for Contemporary Asian Art. The opening night event will also present the ACWW Community Builders Award.
